Welcome to the home of The Whitney Foundation.  With a vision and a two million dollar endowment, we began our work in 1999 as a non-profit, public foundation.

On the left, you will find our index.  Explore the topics and find information about some of our funded programs, links to our grantee's websites, how to apply for a grant, and a tribute to our founder, Kathryn Whitney Stephens.

                 Mission Statement:

Based on the message, "To share with others what has been given to you," the Whitney Foundation reaches out to assist families and individuals in areas where housing, health, and education obstacles impede the achievement of personal goals. The Whitney Foundation is not about charitable giving.  Instead, we are dedicated to assisting others to bring about positive change in their lives so that they can become self-sustaining, confident, and productive members of society.

Our focus is to seek areas that often fall through the cracks of traditional grants. Special emphasis is given to the following:

    * The constituents are actively involved in the work, and benefit from the programs of the organization.
    * The project promotes diversity, addresses inequality, oppression, and discrimination within the organization as well as in the larger society.
    * The organization can demonstrate how their work addresses the underlying systemic causes of the problem.
    * The proposal expresses how it fits the mission of The Whitney Foundation.
    * The evaluation process clearly connects to project goals and objectives.
