Our Grant Guidelines

Teaching self-sufficiency is the cornerstone of our mission.
The purpose of The Whitney Foundation is to help fund and supplement those educational, health and housing projects that bring about positive changes in peoples’ lives, in the area of Fresno and the States of Utah and Idaho.
The Whitney Foundation is dedicated to assisting others in bringing about permanent change in their lives so that they can become self-sustaining, confident and productive members of society. The Whitney Foundation will seriously seek out those needs that often “fall through the cracks” of traditional grants.
The Whitney Foundation gives emphasis to those projects that address the following:
- The applicant organization can describe how their organization works to promotes diversity, addresses inequality, oppression & discrimination within both the organization as well as in the larger society.
- The applicant organization can demonstrate how their work addresses and attempts to change the underlying systemic root causes of the problem.
- The applicant organization can demonstrate engagement with other service providers in their community and articulate their place in the service continuum in order to prevent duplication of services.
- The proposal reflects that constituents were involved in identifying the problem and identifying potential solutions.
- The proposal identifies how program participants will benefit from the proposed services and how the services result in permanent change in their lives.
- The proposal expresses how it fits with the mission of The Whitney Foundation.
- The proposal is evidence based, meaning there is research or prior implementation efforts that help to assure the programs success.
- The proposal can clearly identify goals and objectives and that the evaluation efforts can be linked to the program activities.
- The applicant organization provides a feasible operational plan for sustainability of the applicant organization and the proposed project, unless the project is time-limited.
The submission of a proposal to the Whitney Foundation is a two-step process. The initial step is to contact the Whitney Foundation offices and indicate your interest in submitting a proposal to the Foundation. After consideration by the staff, you will be provided with written guidance for submitting a pre-application, a brief one-page description of your proposal. Once the pre-application is received in the Foundation offices, a site visit will be scheduled to discuss more about your proposal and its fit with the Whitney Foundation. At the conclusion of the site visit, a recommendation will be made to staff as to whether or not to invite the applicant to submit a full proposal.
The second step is the submission of a full proposal. Full proposals are reviewed on a quarterly basis. If a full proposal is solicited, the following guidelines should be considered;
Submit one copy of proposal by stipulated deadline according to the following requirements:
Use standard typeface with font size 12
Use white 8.5.x11 paper
Use 1 inch margins
Do not fax application or send videos
Please number every page
Follow the outline of the application and answer all of the questions. Failure to do so may result in not being considered.

Requests are approximately $10,000-$15,000 with some exceptions
